A proper carnivore diet typically includes large amounts of animal products such as beef, pork, poultry, fish, and eggs, as well as organ meats like liver and kidney. Though recent studies show that organ meat is actually not at all a must when eating this way. Some carnivores also include dairy products like butter and cheese in their diet, although solid, high fat dairy, such as cheese, heavy cream are acceptable, milk is not encouraged. If you must drink milk while eating this way make sure you use the raw, unpasteurized variety. Warning, if you overconsume cheese it can lead to constipation. It is also important to listen to your body and adjust the ratio of macronutrients to fit your individual needs.
Salt and other minerals are essential for maintaining proper bodily function, and are important to include in a carnivore diet. Salt, specifically, is important for maintaining proper hydration and electrolyte balance, as well as for supporting the function of the cardiovascular and nervous systems. Other minerals, such as iron, zinc, and selenium, are also important for a variety of bodily functions and can be found in meat and organ meats as well.
A carnivore diet typically includes the following:
- Beef: This includes cuts of meat from the cow, such as steaks, roasts, and ground beef.
- Pork: This includes cuts of meat from the pig, such as bacon, pork chops, and ham.
- Poultry: This includes chicken and turkey.
- Fish: This includes wild caught fish such as salmon, tuna, and cod.
- Eggs: Whole eggs, including the yolk, are often included in a carnivore diet.
- Organ meats: This includes liver, kidney, heart, and other organ meats from beef, pork, poultry, and fish. These organ meats are rich in vitamins and minerals. These are not essential, but if you like them please feel free to consume them.
- Cooking Oils: Butter, lard, bacon grease, beef tallow. Steer clear of all seed oils and margarines as they are highly processed vegetable garbage. Consume only foods that do not contain them, or that are not cooked in them.
- Drinks: Water and black coffee are the norm. You can use creamer in your coffee, and even butter. But if you must use creamer use full fat, heavy cream for this purpose.
As for the meat that you consume, it does not need to be grass fed or “organic.” Even if it is the cheapest meat you can purchase at your grocery store you will still reap all of the benefits of this way of eating. The secret to all of this is to make sure that you consume meat with a high fat content. While poultry is included in this list, it is very low in fat and is not as nutrient dense as other ruminant meats, like what comes from cattle, goat, lamb, antelope, deer, elk, etc. The fat content in these meats is where the benefits originate. Contrary to what you have been taught, eating fat does not make you fat. That concept has been debunked many times over, yet that fact has been kept quiet by our sugar, agriculture and pharmaceutical industries. You know. the same industries that fund or perform all of the studies that teach us which foods that are healthy for us. Yes, they are responsible for most studies that are conducted and that practice has lead us down the path to being where we are today. We are a society that is made up of very unhealthy, sick, fat people.
If this way of eating happens to lead you to question the need for vitamin supplements; most people do not know this but beef is full of essential vitamins and minerals. Take a look at the image below to ease your worried mind.

In a nutshell, you have everything to gain and absolutely nothing to lose by trying this way of eating for at least ninety days. Your doctor won’t tell you this because he/she simply does not know any better. They have very minimal training in nutrition and what little they do know, you know where it comes from, those same studies that I mentioned above. Some doctors are seeking out this information on their own and are now coming on board with this lifestyle. When I had my yearly physical a couple of months ago I learned that my doctor was actually eating this way himself and he encouraged me to stick with it because it was showing very positive results for me. The positive results he had seen in himself have converted him into a proponent of this way of eating.
I feel that it is also worth mentioning to my readers that once you are three to four weeks along in your carnivore journey, you will realize that you have almost completely lost your cravings for the carbohydrate/sugar laden garbage that you formerly called a treat. Most people indulge in these things much more often than they realize. As for me, I myself have been eating this way for almost three years and I have never once gotten tired or bored with eating the same things day after day after day.
It is essential that you do not cheat, ever. One day/meal of cheating will set you back for a week or more in regaining the benefits that you had earlier achieved. It really is like taking three steps forward and two steps back. That is where most people fudge up when eating this way and they eventually convince themselves that this way of eating doesn’t work and they stop and go back to their old way of eating. They failed, not because this way of eating doesn’t work, they failed because they were not committed enough to adhere strictly to it for the amount of time required for their system to become “fat adapted” to the point where they were seeing/feeling all of the positive results that only happen when your system is burning fat and storing only what little fat it needs, instead of burning carbohydrates and storing all of the fat.
Give it a try for ninety days. I promise that you’ll not be sorry if you do. Never give up!
